skin-barrier concept education

What is the skin barrier, and why does it matter?

When skin feels tight or easily depleted, the skin barrier is the epidermis's protective outer surface, where lipids help hold water in and preserve comfort.

Humectants draw water in, emollients condition and smooth the surface, and occlusives help keep water from leaving. Those are different jobs: adding water is not the same as keeping it there, and a tight, stripped feeling after cleansing can signal disruption rather than a cleaner finish.

At night, Microbiome Restorative Evening Moisturizer combines Ceramide NP and Cholesterol as complementary barrier lipids with Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Squalane, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Hydrogenated Olive Oil Unsaponifiables, and Phytosphingosine for emollient comfort. Sodium Hyaluronate adds water-binding support; Lactobacillus/Punica Granatum Fruit Ferment Extract and Lactobacillus Ferment are the formula's ferment-derived ingredients. Together, the finished formula provides extended moisture, softness, barrier comfort, and improves the appearance of fine lines. Shop the evening moisturizer. When lighter hydration is wanted first, apply Microbiome Boosting Serum before moisturizer. It adds a water-binding layer without replacing the richer night finish.
