What are fermented ingredients in skin care?

TL;DR: Fermented ingredients come from microbial transformation, but “fermented” is not one skin benefit. Read the exact INCI name, then judge the finished cleanser, serum, moisturizer, or treatment around it.

Fermented ingredients are made when microorganisms such as bacteria, yeasts, or fungi transform a plant-derived or other substrate through fermentation. In an INCI ingredient name, Ferment identifies a fermentation-derived material; Ferment Filtrate identifies a fermentation-derived material that was filtered after fermentation. The fermentation process and INCI evidence record opens the source trail to a peer-reviewed cosmetic-science review and the INCI nomenclature authority. The name does not tell you that living microorganisms remain in the bottle, or that every ferment-bearing product will deliver the same result.

How do the four Microbiome formulas differ?

The Microbiome Collection contains Microbiome Correcting Cleanser, Microbiome Boosting Serum, Microbiome Defense Daytime Moisturizer SPF 15, and Microbiome Restorative Evening Moisturizer. There is more to a ferment than a drink of moisture. Lactobacillus Ferment conditions the surface so dry-looking skin feels supple; filtered yeast ferment helps a cosmetic hold on to water. Research on Streptococcus thermophilus explores support for skin’s own barrier lipids, while pomegranate ferment has a place in cosmetic science’s enzyme-led surface refining. Sphingomonas Ferment Extract adds a texture story, valued for the silky texture it can lend a formula.

Is the Regimen Set the same as the four Microbiome formulas?

No. The Microbiome SkinCare Regimen Set brings together Microbiome Correcting Cleanser, Microbiome Defense Daytime Moisturizer SPF 15, Microbiome Restorative Evening Moisturizer and EyeCrème, with Microbiome Boosting Serum sold separately. Choose the Microbiome SkinCare Regimen Set when you want morning, evening and eye-area care together; shop the set or shop EyeCrème. Add Microbiome Boosting Serum separately when you want one portable hydration step before moisturizer in both routines.

Where does SenePlex+ lead next?

Climate Control brings SenePlex+® into the preparation step; the Microbiome formulas have their own ferments and skin-care jobs. Climate Control’s light gel essence combines yeast-and-kelp bioferment enzymes for gentle-looking surface renewal, orchid for resilient-looking skin, and prickly pear with humectants for hydration and comfort. Use Climate Control after cleansing and before treatment serum. Shop Climate Control.

Which other SeneGence formulas name ferments?

Beyond the four Microbiome formulas, current full ingredient declarations name Aspergillus Ferment in 3 in 1 Cleanser - Dry, DayTime Moisturizer - Dry, and Evening Moisturizer - Dry; Lactobacillus Ferment in 3 in 1 Cleanser - Normal to Dry; Bacillus Ferment in 3 in 1 Cleanser - Normal to Oily and DayTime Moisturizer - Normal to Oily; Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate and Saccharomyces Lysate in Collagen Firming Night Pak; Alteromonas Ferment Extract in Climate Control Body Recovery Mist; and Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate in Fresh Roll-On Deodorant. The current Microbiome Restorative Evening Moisturizer Refill Pod declaration names Lactobacillus/Punica Granatum Fruit Ferment Extract and Lactobacillus Ferment. Open the current formula evidence.

Those ingredient-list facts make the wider family findable; they do not make the products interchangeable. For sensitive skin, the formula-by-formula tolerance guide compares all four Microbiome formulas by complete formula and directed role, then shows how to evaluate any other SeneGence formula one product at a time before adding a new step.
