Is SeneGence clean beauty?
SeneGence makes Clean Beauty a formulation choice: ingredients chosen for what they contribute, with a standard that goes beyond the European Union’s prohibited-substance list. “Beauty at its best means ingredients you love minus the rest.”

What does Clean Beauty mean at SeneGence?
You should enjoy your beauty choices and understand what goes into them. Our science team asks what every ingredient contributes; if it adds no value to the formula, we leave it out.
Clean Beauty is one of SeneGence’s Four Pillars. We voluntarily formulate to the EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 and screen for ingredients of concern beyond those already regulated. That care makes the standard a practical part of choosing the bottle you bring home. Explore all Four Pillars.
What does SeneGence formulate without?
All SeneGence products are formulated with NO:
Parabens (the Clear Lip Balm is the one exception, and it's upgrading very soon)
Phthalates
Formaldehyde / formaldehyde-releasers
SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate)
Drying waxes
Carcinogens
Animal by-products
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances)
When one ingredient matters to you, the label on your own product is the final word.
Read the official Product Knowledge Guide alongside the label on the product you own.
How have the European Union figures changed?
The European Union now prohibits more than 1,700 substances in cosmetics and restricts hundreds more. SeneGence voluntarily formulates to that cosmetic standard, then goes further with its own ingredient screening and the eight formulation categories above.
You may still see “over 1,450” or “over 1,600” in older SeneGence materials; both were right when they were published. The EU keeps adding to its list, so today the figure is more than 1,700, and those numbers describe the EU list, while our eight formulation categories are our own.
By our 2025 responsibility report, 95% of legacy-product reformulations toward the Clean Beauty Standard were complete; the label in your hand shows the formula you own today. Read the formulation standard and its history.
Can Clean Beauty contain fragrance?
Yes. When we use fragrance, it meets IFRA (International Fragrance Association) safety standards and contains no phthalates, parabens or formaldehyde. Some SeneGence products are fragrance-free, so you can choose by the exact formula and the experience you enjoy.
LipSense® Moisturizing Lip Balm has a lightweight, fragrance-free formula with a matte finish. Nail Polish and scented Beauty Sleep serve different beauty jobs. Whether you love the calm of scented Beauty Sleep or prefer a fragrance-free balm, each product page and label tells you exactly what that formula holds.
How is SeneGence mica sourced?
The shimmer you enjoy begins with a supplier choice. SeneGence buys mica only from suppliers with strict policies against child labor and active responsible-sourcing programs, and requires proof of both before approving a supplier.
That is the responsible-sourcing commitment behind mica’s place in beauty. See LipSense® Color’s formula and responsibly sourced mica.
What happens when ingredient safety data is unsettled?
We take a precautionary approach. If safety data is incomplete or disputed, or an ingredient is heading toward restriction, we leave it out even when it is still legal. We would rather reformulate early than defend an ingredient later.
The standard reaches beyond a prohibited list: an ingredient has to earn its place, and new information can change that choice. The maintained NO List and safety-and-quality review continue as formulas are developed and updated.
Is SeneGence cruelty-free, vegan-friendly and gluten-free?
SeneGence is cruelty-free and never tests on animals. All topical products are vegan-friendly, and everything is formulated without gluten-containing ingredients.
VitaSense™ Beauty + Collagen, an ingestible supplement, contains fish-derived marine collagen, so our vegan-friendly promise belongs to every topical product. Compare the supplement’s own ingredients.
Where can I check my product’s full ingredients?
Start with the label on the product you own: it is the official ingredient source for that product. Read it alongside the matching current page on senegence.com, where you can also find the formula’s directions.
Ingredients are listed from highest to lowest concentration using standard international INCI names, so it is easy to check them against anything you want to avoid. Match the full name when you check an ingredient. A familiar product name on the front does not replace the ingredient list for the bottle in your hand.
The current official Product Knowledge Guide explains the Clean Beauty Standard and key ingredients. For the full ingredients of your exact product, return to its label and matching official product page.
How does the standard help me choose?
Choose the beauty job first, then let the formula make the decision clearer. SeneGence Nail Polish gives richly pigmented, glossy color and its own 17-Free formula promise. That product-specific promise includes formulation without acetone, animal-derived ingredients, Bisphenol-A, camphor, ethyl tosylamide, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, gluten, Glycol Ether of Series E, nonylphenol ethoxylate, parabens, phthalates including DBP, styrene, sulfate, toluene, Triphenyl Phosphate and xylene. Choose your manicure with 2-in-1 Base & Top Coat.
Deep Cleansing Scalp Scrub is a sugar-based, sulfate-free choice for scalp buildup and excess oils. LipSense® pH Glossy Tint gives nourishing comfort and high-shine tint, with its own formulation without parabens, gluten or animal by-products. Each of these promises belongs to its own formula, ready on its product page when one ingredient matters to you.
For the wider environmental choices around the formula, follow the Green Initiative. The Naked Bottle, ingredient care and operational choices each have their own part in that story.
How do the standard and my ingredient list work together?
SeneGence makes “clean” a formulation choice: We formulate to the European Union cosmetic standard, which prohibits more than 1,700 substances.
Our company-defined Clean Beauty Standard turns that benchmark into a maintained NO List, ongoing safety-and-quality review, and named formula exclusions.
Clean Beauty is one of our Four Pillars, so it shapes formula decisions across the catalogue. Our standard leaves out parabens, phthalates, formaldehydes, SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), PFAS and drying waxes.
The standard and the current ingredient list work together. Use the standard to understand the company-wide choices, then read the exact product page when one ingredient or category matters to you.
Is SeneGence entirely paraben-free?
Clear Lip Balm is the one exception to our NO parabens standard, and it’s upgrading very soon. The current label is the official source for the balm you own.
Does Clean Beauty mean fragrance-free?
SeneGence offers some fragrance-free products. Where fragrance is used, it meets IFRA safety standards and contains no phthalates, parabens or formaldehyde. Choose by the exact product formula.
Why might my label differ from an older guide?
SeneGence updates formulas as ingredient choices develop. Use the product label as the official source for the bottle you own and compare it with the matching current product page.
Are the older EU numbers wrong?
The “over 1,450” and “over 1,600” you may see in older SeneGence materials were right when they were published. The EU keeps adding to its list, so today’s figure is more than 1,700.
Are wellness supplements included in the vegan-friendly promise?
The official vegan-friendly promise covers all topical products. VitaSense™ Beauty + Collagen contains fish-derived marine collagen; check each supplement’s own ingredients.
